Maxine Owles (Max)

Manager of the Boathouse since April 2022.

Having been with the Boathouse since 2018 initially in the role of admin, later progressing to being back on the tools in the workshop, and the building of the prototype ‘Windsong’.

Can be seen over the summer season releasing kayakers into the creek, and sorting out a plethora of eclectic things.

In the winter to be found under, in or around a boat with a tool or a brush in hand.

Max took over as manager on 1st April 2022.

John owles

The Workshop Guru.

John has been with the boathouse as a boatbuilder since 2015, having previously run his own boatbuilding business.

Designer of ‘Windsong’ among many others.

John is a highly skilled craftsman and what John doesn’t know, isn’t worth knowing. He is always happy to chat about your boat, project, problem etc. A coin operated timer is due to be fitted shortly.

Married to Max for over 30 years, they both reside on site.

corporate quality control/hospitality

As the main meet and greet, he is often found in a sun spot in the boatyard, his other role is to check that the traffic is moving slowly, and that children are swimming and sploshing about in the creek. When nobody needs checking on, he often hitches a ride on departing boats and kayaks, to check the tide or channel deviations.

If nothing needs reporting, he is frequently to be found in the Hero, waiting for his people to come and get him.

MUD TESTER/APPREnTICE SECURITY

Main mud tester in the creek, often to be found wearing pseudo ‘wellies’ made of mud.

He also likes to try his luck testing timber, but that is a big NoNo from the management for obvious reasons.

If a doggo can be bouncy whilst also being soft and floppy, ungainly ill mannered and galumphing. That’s him!

wildlife and security expert

Loves crabbing and can often be found (eventually) somewhere around the creek, checking out crab lines and buckets, investigating the fauna under boats on the bank or in the boatyard, finding holes in fences and terrorising swans!! Generally being looked for by one of the team.

Part Houdini, part small terrier, she can escape anything, the straight jacket looms.

IT SPECIALIST AND SPIDER CATCHER

Added to the team for rodent control, she is yet to venture as far as rodents, does computer mouse count?

Finds herself naturally adept at IT and all things web.. best spider catcher on the premises, when she can be bothered….

Failing that she’ll be found having a nap on a bed.
